Diy- Starting Organic Garden
Starting organic garden is, to an extent, similar to that of other types of gardens. However, there are fundamental differences too. Since an organic garden fundamentally does not use artificial fertilizers and manures, you will have to bank on natural resources much more.
Starting an organic garden is mostly about harnessing all natural resources available to ensure that the plants grow and stay healthy. Hence, from the selection of the types of plants to selecting the site of the garden, each step is critical to the heath of an organic garden. Let us take a look at the various steps you need to take to start an organic garden at home.
Set your goals: Decide first what you are going to achieve. Are you looking to create a garden that will have flowers and that will add to the appeal of your home? Are you going to create a garden to grow vegetables instead? Set your goals first and whatever you do after that will be decided based on your goals.
Select the garden site: Select the specific area that will be suitable for an organic garden. For example, if you plan to grow vegetables or herbs, then choose an area that will receive sunlight for at least 6 hours of the day.
Also, an important criterion for the soil is the ability to drain out the surplus water, in case of too much of rain. After you have selected your site, observe it for a day or two to find out whether that is suitable. Does it receive adequate sunlight? How does the soil like? Try to find out answers to these questions. This will bring out the best organic gardening.
Bed Creating: Start digging after you have selected the site. Decide on the shape and size of the garden. To do this, you can put down a garden hose and adjust it. Also, very importantly, you need to clean the area for any bush, grass or shrubs.
Amending the soil: Since good soil is essential for a good garden, you need to amend the soil, if need be. The best way to do this is to add compost to it. You can either prepare the compost on your own or have this delivered at your doorsteps by a shop. You can also send the soil for testing for nutrients and acidity.
After you have amended the soil, the next steps are to plant the trees and label the trees. This will ensure great yield, whether it is organic gardening for tomatoes, organic gardening for vegetables or organic gardening for herbs.
No matter what you do, you must never ever use artificial fertilizers and manures to nurture an organic plant. That is a gardening disaster.
