Decorating With Garden Flags And Yard Flags
Your home is beautiful and well kept. Your front porch is adorned with potted flowers and wandering ivies, and your walk is lined with flowers. Yet you stand back to survey the welcoming appearance of your home, but there is still something missing; your home needs something that says something about the family who lives in your home, but in a way that adds to the beauty you have already created. The final touch might be a decorative garden or yard flag.
Sizes Available
Garden flags may be 12" by 18" flags that hang from brackets in the front garden. Quaint and subtle, the colors of the flag peek out from your flowers or decorate a blank area by the mailbox. It may be 28" by 40" flag that hangs from the flag pole on or in front of your house. Hanging from a designated spot near your front entrance, this flag adds color and celebrates the season or simply offers welcome to all who stop by.
Themes
The number of possible themes for your garden flag are limitless. Seasonal themes are one option. Seasonal flags depict symbols of the season at hand, like red and orange leaves for fall, or crocus and baby birds for spring. These are festive at any time of year, and can be changed with the seasons. Nothing encourages the anticipation of a coming season like a festive depiction of upcoming seasonal pleasures, whether those are the show and festive lights of winter, or the flip flops and sunglasses that come with summertime.
Like seasonal yard flags, holiday flags can be used for the time they are appropriate, then replaced with the next holiday's flag. Designs may include pumpkins or black cats for Halloween, elves and Santa or a Christmas tree for Christmas. An Easter flag may depict an Easter bunny or Easter eggs, and an Independence Day flag may have a fife and drum corps or fireworks.
Other themes may be chosen, depending on what the owner wants to say. A pineapple is a Hawaiian sign of welcome; a peace sign will make a political statement. Flowers, butterflies, and birds are popular and come in a myriad of colors. Flags may be animated or simplistic, or realistic and highly detailed. They may be appliqued or airbrushed.
Choosing Your Garden Flags
Most people who choose to put out a garden flag ultimately purchase more than one so they can change them seasonally or as their message changes. There are yard flags for every passion and event. The birth of a new baby may be heralded with a yard flag, as may be a marriage or a graduation. Flags are made of durable nylon that will withstand the elements and maintain their vivid colors over time. Flags are machine washable, but flags with appliqued artwork or excess stitching should be washed using a gentle cycle. Larger flags will have a wide enough slit through which to insert a flag pole. The smaller flags will have a smaller slit, and you will need to purchase a bracket made specifically to hold these garden flags.
